The Difference Between Digital Marketing And Online Marketing

To understand the difference between digital marketing and online marketing we need to look at the basic definition of each.

Online marketing: “Online marketing is a set of tools and methodologies used for promoting products and services through the internet. Online marketing includes a wider range of marketing elements than traditional business marketing due to the extra channels and marketing mechanisms available on the internet.”

Digital marketing: “Digital marketing is the marketing of products or services using digital technologies, mainly on the Internet, but also including mobile phones, display advertising, and any other digital medium.”

Make sense?

Why does it matter?

It doesn’t really. Online marketing to me is promoting a product or service on the Internet. You see this in various ways including blogging like we do with our Bizzy Boomers blog and link exchanges like we have done with Intraday Tips.

Digital marketing includes that but also includes the way you market including smart phones which 90% of all searches done online are done with.

All of us boomers have done, or are doing online marketing if we are promoting our home business. Common ways for Bizzy Boomers include blogging, SEO, email marketing, Facebook, Twitter, & LinkedIn.

Digital marketing incorporates online marketing but also includes smart phones today. That means a blog for example needs to be mobile ready or use a responsive theme.

The theme should size correctly for the device it is being search on i.e. a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. Using a newer WordPress theme automatically takes care of this for use.

Bizzy Boomers is using the Primer WordPress Theme. It automatically adjusts to the size of the screen in is being viewed on. Plus it looks great, was free, and was easy to set up.

You need to master one or two methods of online marketing and be sure to include digital marketing into those. Facebook Groups and Facebook Ads are hot right now.

Building an email list and using your blog as a traffic generation tool has never been more beneficial. Tying in a Facebook Group and Facebook ads to drive traffic to your blog and then capture their email address on your list is the #1 strategy Bizzy Boomers sees today.

Don’t know if it works?

Click on a couple of the ads you see on your Facebook timeline for ways to make money or marketing online. Once you do that you will start seeing more ads.

The thing I notice is they are not so much selling anything as they are asking you to click here for more information. This uses digital technology to capture you searching habits, but also uses curiosity as an online marketing tool.

With so many online businesses doing it you know it works!
